A high-performance Vitamin C serum that works with skin’s own defences to brighten and firm.
"I have really dry/dehydrated skin & only after using this for 4 days there is such a difference already, my skin is really smooth & looks so much brighter. Love it, worth the price" - Helen
A high-performance Vitamin C serum that works with skin’s own defences to brighten and firm. Advanced bio-technology fuses ultra-stable Vitamin C and Palmitoyl Tripeptide-5, helping to dramatically reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
I have to be totally honest, I was a little bit skeptical but I faithfully used Dermalogica’s Biolumin-C morning and evening after cleansing and toning for about 3 weeks and then people started noticing (everyone loves a compliment!) and I started noticing, my skin was actually looking brighter, radiant and a whole lot healthier and happier!

Read Jen's blogDermalogica’s BioLumin-C Serum contains a unique, Ultra Stable Vitamin C Complex. This formula includes 2 new-generation forms of vitamin C. These new forms of vitamin C are stable, active and effective. Simply put: they get results.
1. Biolumin C Serum contains 2 new forms of vitamin C that can brighten dark spots and hyperpigmentation. Great for sun damage, age spots or acne scarring.
2. Biolumin C Serum contains a designer peptide (super fancy ingredient) that can retrain your collagen to stop sagging skin. If you are concerned with loss of elasticity, this product will give you plump, supple skin that you can feel confident about.
3. Biolumin C can brighten dull skin like never before! This clever serum contains technology that makes sure powerful forms of vitamin C will penetrate your skin’s layers, and brighten your complexion. Both forms of vitamin C used in this serum are superior and stable to other forms on the market (even higher concentrations.)
4. Dermalogica’s BioLumin-C Serum can prevent wrinkles and soften existing lines in 3 ways. It contains a wealth of ingredients - including a savvy form of vitamin C - that actually boost your collagen production. Once collagen is boosted, skin becomes plump - as when air is pumped into a balloon. BioLumin-C Serum also stops skin from becoming dry, cracked and dehydrated, so no dehydration fine lines. As if that’s not enough, it protects your skin from pollution or free radical damage which causes wrinkle damage everyday.
5. BioLumin-C Serum can transform and restore dry skin that has a rough texture. Its Ultra Stable Vitamin C Complex has been partnered with chia seed oil and sophora japonica flower extract. Chia seed oil is rich in antioxidants that quench free radicals and it contains more than 60% omega 3 fatty acid - one of the highest concentrations of any plant source. This makes it incredible at repairing dry skin.
Dispense a full dropper and smooth over cleansed face and neck morning and night, after toning and before moisturising.
It's advised you use BioLumin-C Serum alongside an SPF otherwise your skin may become sensitive in the sun. Truth be told, if you use this product as part of a full, skin routine, your results will be beyond exceptional. Outstanding, in fact. We’ll go as far as saying you won’t have to worry about ageing skin when you use BioLumin-C Serum as part of a daily skin health routine.
Use a cleanser twice in the morning, and twice in the evening to thoroughly condition your skin. This can close open pores and remove debris from your complexion.
Exfoliate 1-2 times a week (unless you are using Daily Microfoliant!) This will encourage your skin cells to renew even as you age.
Apply a toner to condition your skin after cleansing and exfoliation. Toner can make your other products more effective, helping them travel to deeper skin layers.
Here’s where you should apply your BioLumin-CSerum. Serum penetrates deeper layers of skin, so always apply before moisturiser. Don’t mix BioLumin-C Serum in with your moisturiser - this is a potent product and should be applied alone.
Wait a minute before applying your favourite moisturising cream. Remember, BioLumin-C Serum conditions dry skin, so a little moisturiser will go a long way.
if your moisturiser doesn’t contain an SPF - you must use one! Vitamin C is a gentle exfoliant so you must use Biolumin C Serum with SPF to prevent sensitivity to the sun. Do not use Biolumin C Serum at the same time as using retinol. Instead, use retinol in the evening, and Biolumin C in the daytime.
Ingredient | |
---|---|
Water: | Helps Biolumin C Serum absorb into your skin’s deepest layers. |
Glycerine: | Draws water from the air into the skin’s outer layer, making your complexion look full and plump so that you feel nourished and bright. Also forms a protective layer that helps prevent moisture loss, so that you can escape dryness or dehydration. |
Butylene Glycol: | A colourless, organic alcohol used to help other products dissolve in water, or to make products thin and fluid in texture. Dermalogica do not use SD alcohol they only use fatty alcohols which can be extremely beneficial for the skin. Butylene glycol is non-drying, non-stripping and great for sensitivity. |
Ethoxydiglycol: | Clear, practically colourless liquid used to give Biolumin C Serum a smooth texture. |
Lactic Acid: | Alpha hydroxy acid (aha) extracted from milk, although most forms used in cosmetics are synthetic because that form is easier to formulate with and stabilise. Lactic acid is gently exfoliating, hydrating and helps brighten an uneven skin tone. If you have incredibly sensitive skin - you might want to patch test this product. Always use an SPF with the product, especially in the first few weeks. |
Chia Seed Oil: | Chock full of important saturated fatty acids, which are both integral to maintaining healthy skin cell membranes and warding off the harmful effects of free radicals. Free radicals are tiny particles in the air that attack collagen and elastin, essentially causing wrinkles and sagging skin. This is a great ingredient for dry and ageing skin. |
Sodium PCA: | Naturally occurring water-binding ingredient, with the ability to absorb moisture from the air. It can also bind moisture to cells, and hold several times its weight in water. This will make your skin look and feel plump so that you feel confident in your complexion. |
Palmitoyl Tripeptide 5: | a synthetic peptide that firms your skin. Peptides are fragments of proteins. Proteins (like collagen and elastin) are the fundamental building blocks of skin. The truly remarkable thing is that peptides are unique in design - they can be created in very specific ways to target an exact skincare need. For example, this peptide teaches skin what to do in order to stay plump and firm - leaving you with a supple complexion. |
Sophora Japonica Flower Extract: | This floral extract has an antibacterial activity. In fact, it contains flavonoids which help return skin to a calm state after experiencing free radical stress. Brilliant ingredient for soothing inflammation related to ageing skin. |
Ascorbyl Methylsilanol Pectinate: | A type of vitamin C that is considered stable and that functions as an antioxidant and thickening agent. That means it will actually work on your skin, whereas with some unstable vitamin C’s, the goodness and protection is wasted before the vitamin is applied to your skin. |
Sodium Hyaluronate: | hyaluronic acid. This can hold up to 1000 times its own weight in water - perfect for soothing dehydrated skin. |
Vitamin E (Tocopherol): | Antioxidant that works to protect your skin from free radicals. The vitamin acts as a skin defender - protecting you from the cause of wrinkles. |
Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate: | A salt derived from the licorice plant. Also known as licorice root extract. This skin conditioning ageing works to improve the appearance of dry and damaged skin by reducing flaking and restoring suppleness. If you have dryness, this is a brilliant product for helping your skin look full and bright. |
Aminopropyl Ascorbyl Posphate: | A brilliant form of vitamin C useful for building collagen, defending the skin against free-radicals, healing inflammation, reducing the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles, and resolving hyperpigmentation. As this is a new generation derivative of Vitamin C, it’s chosen by many for having superior stability and effectiveness. It’s particularly good at reducing melanin production which is what gives age spots and post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation. If that is your concern, this product is certainly worth a try. |
Trehalose: | Trehalose is a sugar that is considered useful because of its rehydrating and water binding properties, as well as its antioxidant powers. The sugar re-hydrates skin cells. When skin cells are hydrated, they are highly-effective. Yet, when they are dehydrated, they are damaging for the skin and cause dryness and ageing. This means that trehalose is a preventative ingredient. |
Polyacrylate-13: | Sodium Polyacrylate is thought to be able to absorb as much as 200 to 300 times its mass in water. is used in a variety of formulas because it can alter the texture of a product, making it pleasant for your remarkable skin. |
Propanediol: | Helps the absorption of ingredients into the skin. It has hydrating properties that may leave a smooth, dewy finish. Propanediol is not likely to cause sensitivity. |
Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Peel Oil: | Citrus Grandis is a Asian citrus tree known for its healthy benefits. It can soothe acne or oily skin. |
Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil: | Rich in nutrients such as calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc and vitamins A, K and E, it’s used effectively against inflammation and general irritations of the skin. Being very high in vitamin E, it acts as an emollient which traps moisture and keeps skin well hydrated. It also helps prevent sun damage to cells by ultraviolet light and aids against premature ageing of skin by protecting the collagen and elastin content of your beautiful complexion. |
Polyisobutene: | a thickening and film-forming agent that does not penetrate skin due to its large molecular size. |

Carrageenan: | This ingredient has awesome water binding properties to aid your dehydrated skin. |
Pentylene Glycol: | This can bind water to your skin, making it look plump. Plus, it acts as a preservative, keeping your serum long-lasting. |
Glyceryl Polyacrylate: | Creates a protective barrier texture for your precious skin. |
Caprylyl Glycol: | Binds water and moisture to the skin and preserves your product so that it can last 12 months on opening and still be extremely effective. |
Ethylhexylglycerin: | This is a safe preservative to keep your product fresh. |
Tetrasodium Glutamate Diacetate: | This can preserve formulas as well as improve the stability so that they can last a long time. |
Xanthan Gum: | Can hold water and helps skin’s condition, making skin plump. It can also improve shelf life and help with the stabilization of a product. |
Polysorbate 20: | Is a fragrance derivative of berries and helps products stay stable. |
Limonene: | A natural fragrance, limonene also has strong antioxidant benefits - stopping free radicals - and has also been shown to calm skin. |
Sodium Hydroxide: | Also known as lye, sodium hydroxide is a highly alkaline ingredient used in small amounts in cosmetics to establish and hold the pH of a product. In high concentrations, it’s a significant skin sensitizer. |
Phenoxyethanol: | Preservative that occurs naturally in green tea. |
