In this video, Jersey Beauty Co Beth interview’s Dermalogica’s Education Executive Victoria to find out what Dermalogica’s Prisma Protect daytime moisturiser is all about!
Prisma Protect SPF30 is designed for those aged 20 to 30-something. It’s a day cream for your face and neck to maintain healthy skin and prevent skin damage. And it's designed to do three key things.
1. Defend. Defend against UV, pollution, and free radicals.
2. To hydrate. So, it's a moisturiser, but we've got advanced technology in here so that it hydrates the skin all day long, to tackle dehydration.
3.The third thing Prisma Protect SPF 30 does is it boosts your skin's natural luminosity using some exciting new drone technology.
So the key thing is obviously over time, cumulatively using this product, you're going to be preventing skin damage. So you've got a really good, superior SPF and pollution defence within there. So the more you use it, obviously, you're going to minimise skin damage and prevent premature ageing.
What you will see is an increase in hydration. So most of us will suffer with a lot of water loss during the day, so our skin is quite dehydrated, so it can't function as effectively, it doesn't look as glowy and as plump and as healthy. So that will definitely be an improvement that you will see. And then the intelligent drone technology boosts your skin's natural luminosity. Dermalogica have some clinical studies coming very soon that actually prove the increase in luminosity and inner glow. It's about inner, natural radiance, not about like a primer or a highlighter type glow. It's boosting the skin's glow from within.
So you will see a healthy glow. You will see luminosity. And you won't see fine lines, wrinkles, pollution damage like hyper-pigmentation, things like that. So it's defending and it's giving us a glow at the same time.
So the idea is that it's designed for all skin conditions, as Dermalogica wanted as many people to use it as possible. And it's in the daily skin health line. So it's like an everyday skin health essential. Texture-wise, it's a light to medium weight texture. So if you have super super dry skin it might not be heavy enough for you. It's designed to give a light, sheer coverage. Dermalogica’s suggestion is if you have really really dry skin, and that's your genetic skin-type, you might want to stick with your Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance cream, to really address dry skin. However, there's no reason why you couldn't put some Prisma Protect SPF 30 over your Intensive Moisture Balance, as an example. Or another option is to use something like Phyto Replenish Oil. So using an oil serum, that you can utilise under your Prisma Protect SPF 30, just to give that more oily defence that you need underneath. So there are ways of being able to incorporate Prisma Protect SPF 30 into a dry skin routine. It really depends on how dry your skin is.
It's very tricky with sensitive skin because how sensitive is your skin? How reactive is it? I think the key thing is that it will probably be tolerated by many a sensitive skin, but if you know that you don't get on with chemical sunscreens, so for a lot of sensitive skins you can't use any chemical sunscreen. So remembering that the Dermalogica Super Sensitive Shield SPF30, from the ultra-calming line, that is our chemical-free SPF. You do have that as an alternative.
So the first thing to know is that you cannot block out 100% of UV, it's impossible. And SPF30 will block out about 96% of UV rays. If you jump to an SPF50 you get a 1% increase, so you block about 97%. Really, anything above a 50 you could argue isn't really worth it, to be honest. So that's completely adequate. If you are going to "sunbathe" and sit in the sun then you have to follow the standard rules of applying generously, and applying every hour, hour and a half.
Yeah, so again, texture-wise, light to medium weight, so I think that if you're normal combination, a bit of oily shine, it will probably be absolutely fine. It's quite a sheer coverage. It's not gloopy or thick or heavy, or anything like that. But I think that if you are super oily and you prefer a matte look, don't forget we've got the Dermalogica Medibac Oil Free Matte SPF30. So if you're kind of on the acne side of things, if you suffer with spots and really oily skin, you can see it, then it's that one.
There's nothing in Prisma Protect SPF30 that's going to make you break out and as I say, it's not thick or heavy, it's not comedogenic, or pore clogging or anything like that.
So this designed for your 20s-30 something. I think if you are noticing on your skin you are already ageing, so you are seeing visible lines, wrinkles, pigmentation, anything like that, then you would probably want to opt for Dermalogca’s Age Smart Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF50, in the age-smart line. There's no reason why you can't use Prisma Protect SPF 30 if you love it, and like you said, you layered your Biolumin C serum underneath it for example, you you're getting your ageing defence and firming from your booster product underneath. So that's a good combination.
But Dynamic Skin Recovery SPF50 has your peptides and other age fighting ingredients, so if visible ageing is your key concern, then you might want to opt for your Dynamic Skin Recovery. If you are looking to prevent premature ageing, Prisma Protect SPF 30 is a brilliant defence.
I think as with all Dermalogica regimens, it's really personal. If you are a wash and go person, and you just cleanse and apply Prisma Protect SPF30, great. You've got clean skin and you've got protected, defended, hydrated skin. If you like a more complex regimen and you're double cleansing, you want to spritz with your toner, you want to apply an oil or a booster or a serum underneath, eye cream, any of that, you can go ahead.
It can replace your current moisturiser if you want it to.
It’s RRP £58 and will last for 60 uses.
Use it as part of your morning regimen. So doing your Dermalogica double cleanse, exfoliating if that's part of your regimen that day, and as I said, you can either just apply it onto clean skin, or if you want to spritz with your toner, serums, boosters, etc, you can do. Apply your Prisma Protect SPF30 last before you put your make-up on, and if you're going to.
Prisma Protect is designed to work with your day time defence mode of your skin, really optimising that skin defence, and then come the evening, it really perfectly partners with Dermalogica’s Sound Sleep Cocoon night gel, which is then designed to work with your nighttime biological rhythms of regeneration and repairing the skin.
