We all crave a bit of balance in our lives don’t we?
Whether it’s in our diets, our work-home life, our mind-set or with our skin, keeping everything regulated is key to a balanced life overall. Sounds lovely doesn’t it? But as with most things, the good stuff doesn’t just fall into our laps (oh, imagine!). And especially not when it comes to having a great complexion. After all, there is work to be done to achieve such greatness, and it starts with a good night’s sleep.
Well, they don’t call it beauty sleep for nothing...
As well as drinking plenty of water, eating your five a day and carrying out a consistent morning and evening skincare regime, well-rested skin is one of the main answers to your smooth skin-prayers. But what does sleeping have to do with your skin?
Think about what your skin goes through during the day. From daily aggressors like stress, fluctuating temperature changes and pollution, to irritation, wearing makeup and thick sun cream, your skin takes hit after hit and needs time to heal and reset. When you go into a deep sleep, your body produces growth hormones which create new cells to help regenerate the skin.
If you’re regularly sleeping for less than six hours a night, your skin won’t be able to catch-up and it’ll start to act-up instead. Cue: enlarged pores, dark circles, excess oil, a rough texture, imperfections and zero glow.
Nope, not today thank you.
