Following their new packaging and product line launch, we spoke to Morten Pedersen, one of the Founders of Beauty Kubes to find out more...

A little bit about the brand...

1.) A bit about yourselves/starting your business.

Eve of St Agnes was founded in 2011 by Emma Heywood and Morten Pedersen to create luxurious, natural skincare products. In 2017, the company moved its headquarters to Cornwall and began exploring ways to reduce plastic waste while maintaining a sustainable business model.

In 2018, the brand Beauty Kubes was born! We are very proud of our low-waste and plastic free range of clean beauty products that have won multiple awards and are now stocked world-wide.

We wanted to create a product that could be used in the hotel and tourism industries to eradicate all the millions of tiny plastic toiletry bottles found in hotels, as well as being an every day premium product for the consumer. This was the driving force to create a different product to the shampoo bars that were already on the market. We wanted a product that was the equivalent of a salon quality shampoo, but was in a solid format.

We are so pleased when we get 5 star reviews for our products, with some customers telling us that not only are Beauty Kubes the best plastic free shampoo they have ever used, but the best shampoo they have ever used!

2. Did you want to explain a little more about your use of 'sustainable energy sources'?

Our manufacturing unit in Camelford, is a few miles from the North Cornwall coast. Onsite is a large wind turbine and solar panels that provides sustainable energy to all of the units onsite.

3. Specific awards?

We won the CEW Responsible Beauty Award in 2020, which was a real achievement for us, as it recognises a beauty product or product line that has most significantly moved towards the goal of improved sustainability.

The Award aims to encourage steps towards greater sustainability within the beauty industry, which is one of the major culprits when it comes to the overuse of plastic packaging.

4.) Do you donate/give back to eco-related causes?

For our online orders, we work with an organisation called One Tribe to protect rainforest trees.

For every order placed, we safeguard 25 trees in a rainforest. We decided that protecting trees that are already in existence is far better than planting new ones, as each tree has its own ecosystem and provides a habitat for hundreds of insects, plant life and mammals.

... all about plastic-free Hair Care!

1. Can your Shampoos & Conditioners be used on any hair types, or is there ones that are especially good for curly/straight or thick hair?

We have shampoos to cater for most hair types. The shampoo for normal to dry hair is the best for curly and thick hair, with the Unisex product being the best for straight hair. We even have a product for those with sensitive / dry scalps.

If you have normal hair that isn’t prone to dryness, we recommend using our normal to dry shampoo without a separate conditioner, as it contains a biodegradable conditioning agent to aid wet-combing and to detangle the hair. It can also be used as a body wash, so you have a 3 in 1 product that is perfect to take on your travels!

2. Do you get product build-up in your hair, if used regularly?

No! This is how Beauty Kubes shampoo differs to shampoo bars.

A lot of customers choose Beauty Kubes as they don’t get on well with shampoo bars. Some people find they have to go through a ‘transition period’ when using shampoo bars, so that their hair gets to it, but as beauty kubes is more similar to the performance of a liquid shampoo, this transition period doesn’t take place and your hair will feel really soft after just the first use.

One of the major causes of build-up on the hair can be silicones, as our products are free from silicones and sulphates, build-up isn’t a problem and the hair is left feeling really light and soft.

1. Is the Exfoliator abrasive?

The exfoliator is very gentle, yet very effective, it contains microfine, dermabrasion grade bamboo particles that will gently slough away dead skin cells, without scratching the skin.

2. What would you recommend for those with Blemish-prone or Acne skin types?

The face mask, it is very gentle and balancing, so it’s great for cleansing the skin, leaving it feeling hydrated without stripping the skin of it’s oils which can sometimes exacerbate oily skin problems, as the skin thinks it needs to produce more sebum.

3. Is there a certain product that would be nice to use during the night-time/daytime?

The face mask is ideal to use just before bed, so you can apply any serums, night creams afterwards, benefiting from a good night’s sleep as well! The cleanser is ideal to use morning and night as it will remove all make-up, including eye make-up and mascara. It really helps to freshen up the skin when used in the morning, the added Vitamins B & C, can help to brighten the complexion.
